Working with files and data assets

Useful files can be uploaded into a project and utilized to create project assets or in other processes. An uploaded file is immutable but may be renamed and deleted, or used as the input to another process. This is the key way to bring data and definitions to the platform.

Adding files and assets

  • Files can be added to a project by:
    • Using the in project Upload Files feature (small amounts and under 1gb).
    • Added via a connected SFTP service (when configured) and then bulk importing them using the SFPT utilities - customer success will assist with this
  • Files are used in the creation of project assets and as data sources for conversions.
  • Files can be deleted by users with appropriate permissions.
  • Files can be organized into folders and renamed.
  • Files must be categorized (Schema, Data, Config, Unknown), which is used to help restrict the use of them within Zengines.
  • CSVs are the preferred file type and format for Schema and Data, various flavors of this are supported with different delimiters and file extensions. MS Excel files are also supported for some processes.
  • Files that are categorized as Data can be:
    • Previewed in the platform depending on the user role and project restrictions.
    • Used in a data conversion as input data for a Source.
    • Profiled, validated against a schema, and used as inputs for utilities.
